Deliver from several locations on Shopify

Give each Shopify location its own delivery days, cutoff and limits, and the postcodes it covers. Each order goes to a location with room that stocks it.

If you deliver from more than one place, such as two kitchens or a shop and a warehouse, each one can have its own delivery days, cutoff, daily limit and the postcodes it covers. Customers are offered the days a location serving their postcode can do, and each order goes to a location that has room on its date and stocks everything in it. Dalbie Dates then has Shopify fulfil it from there.

Multiple locations are on Growth (up to 5) and Plus (up to 50). Free and Starter deliver from one location.

Set up your locations

  1. Open Locations in Dalbie Dates. Your Shopify locations are listed already, and new ones appear as you add them in Shopify. A location only delivers dated orders if Shopify fulfils online orders from it.

  2. Turn on each location that delivers dated orders.

  3. Put them in order. When more than one location could take an order, the one Shopify chose comes first, then the first in this list.

  4. Edit a location to set its delivery schedule, daily limit, date exceptions and where it delivers (see below).

  • Delivery schedule: the same as Settings, or its own delivery days, cutoff and fulfilment days.

  • Daily limit: the same as Settings, or its own.

  • Date exceptions: days it’s closed, on top of the ones in Settings, which apply everywhere.

  • Where it delivers: the countries, and the postcodes or zip codes, it covers. Leave postcodes empty and it covers every postcode.

Use Check a postcode on a location’s page to see which locations deliver there.

Postcodes and zip codes

One per line:

  • UK: an area (LS), a district (LS1), a sector (LS1 2) or a full postcode. LS1 covers LS1 1AA but not LS12 3AB.

  • Elsewhere: a prefix ending in * (100*), a range (10001-10099) or a full code.

Two locations can cover the same postcodes. A customer there sees every date either location can do.

With one location, its postcodes limit where you offer delivery dates at all, so customers elsewhere don’t see the calendar.

What customers see

When a location lists postcodes, the calendar on your product page, cart and cart drawer asks for the customer’s postcode first, remembers it, and then shows the days a location covering it can do. A postcode no location covers gets “We don’t deliver to … yet.”

A location that doesn’t stock a product never offers dates for it. In checkout on Shopify Plus, the date picker uses the shipping address instead.

How each order is placed

When an order arrives, Dalbie Dates books it at a location that covers the shipping address, stocks everything in it and has room on its date. Of those, it prefers one with units left of every limited product, then the one Shopify chose, then the first in your list. If Shopify chose another location, the order’s fulfilment is moved to the one it’s booked at.

Stock never moves a customer’s date. If the only location with room that day doesn’t stock the order, it’s kept on its date where it’s stocked, over that location’s daily limit, and flagged on Home so you can decide.

The checkout rule checks the date against the shipping address too: a date no location covering it can do, or a postcode none covers, is stopped before payment. See The checkout rule.

Product limits at each location

Each location counts its own units. On a product’s page, a variant’s limit applies at every location unless you give a location its own, such as 20 a day at one kitchen and 10 at another. See Daily and product limits, and availability windows.

On Home

Choose a location above Upcoming deliveries to see its days against its own limit, or all of them together. Home also flags orders Shopify wouldn’t move to the location they’re booked at, such as one with items that location doesn’t stock.

Questions

Do I need a location for every van or shop? Only for places Shopify fulfils online orders from, since each location is one of your Shopify locations.

What happens if I move a location’s stock in Shopify? Nothing to do: the calendar checks which locations stock a product every few minutes, and each order is checked when it arrives.

Can two locations have different prices? Shipping rates by day applies at every location. Rates for each location are set in Shopify.
