Shopify’s built-in delivery dates show customers an estimate at checkout, such as “Wed 27 Oct – Thu 28 Oct”, worked out from your processing time and the carrier’s transit time. Customers can’t choose a day, and nothing limits how many orders each day gets.
That’s enough if any day is fine and you only want to set expectations. If your customers need it on a particular day (a birthday, an event, fresh food that can’t wait over a weekend), or each day can only take so many orders, they need to choose the date, and you need a limit on each day. That’s what Dalbie Dates adds.
What Shopify’s delivery dates do
As Shopify’s help centre describes them (setting up delivery dates, checked 20 Oct 2026):
An estimated date range at checkout, from your processing time plus the carrier’s transit time.
Business days are Monday to Friday, with a 12:00 cutoff in your shipping origin’s timezone.
They need shipping profiles, a processing time, and eligible rates: flat rates with a transit time, Shopify Shipping label rates, or some negotiated carrier rates. Flat rates work in Canada, the US, the UK, France, Italy, Spain, Germany and Australia.
They don’t show with shipping rates from other apps, or when checkout shows both eligible and ineligible rates.

Using Dalbie Dates
Customers choose their date before checkout, from the days you can deliver that still have room. See Nominated delivery on Shopify for what they see, and Getting started to set it up.
If customers choose their date with Dalbie Dates, Shopify’s estimate at checkout can show a different range from the day they chose, so you may want to turn Shopify’s delivery dates off under Settings → Shipping and delivery.
Questions
Can customers choose a delivery date at checkout without Shopify Plus? Not inside checkout: Shopify only lets apps add a date picker to checkout on Plus. On every plan, customers choose their date on the product page or in the cart before checkout, and the checkout rule makes sure every order arrives at checkout with a date that’s still available.
Can I change Shopify’s 12:00 cutoff? Shopify’s help centre doesn’t say it can. With Dalbie Dates, you set your own fulfilment cutoff in 24-hour time. See Delivery days, cutoff and lead time.
