Shopify doesn’t have a daily order limit. Inventory counts how many of a product you have in total, not how many orders a day can take, so on your busiest days nothing stops more orders coming in than you can make or deliver.
Dalbie Dates puts the limit on the delivery day instead. Customers choose the day their order arrives, each day takes only as many orders as you set, and a day closes on your store the moment it’s full, so customers choose another day instead of you turning orders away. It works on every Shopify plan, and daily limits are on every Dalbie Dates plan, including Free.
Set a limit for every day
Install Dalbie Dates and run the setup wizard. See Getting started.
Add the delivery date picker to your product page and cart. See Add the calendar to your store.
Under Settings → Capacity, set Maximum orders per delivery day. This is a store-wide cap across all products.
Home shows each of the next two weeks’ days against the limit, and marks days that are nearly full or full. Customers never see how many orders a day has left, only whether they can choose it.
Limit the products that run out first
Some products run out before the day does, such as a cake that takes the oven for an hour or a hamper that takes a morning to build. Under Products, give each variant its own daily limit, counted in units. When a variant’s units for a day are used up, customers can’t choose that day for a cart containing it, while everything else keeps selling.
Free includes limits on up to 3 products and Starter up to 10; Growth and Plus have no limit. See Daily and product limits, and availability windows.
Busy weeks and days off
Take nothing on a day, such as a bank holiday: add a date exception. See Date exceptions and holidays.
Take fewer of a product for a while, such as over a holiday week: add a date override to the product (Growth and Plus).
Stop orders you can’t send in time: set your cutoff and delivery time. See Delivery days, cutoff and lead time.
Orders placed at the same moment
A day can fill while a customer is paying. The checkout rule checks the date again at payment and asks the customer to choose another day if it’s now full, so the limit holds on your busiest day. It’s on by default and works on every Shopify plan. See The checkout rule.
Questions
Can I limit orders per day without Shopify Plus? Yes. The calendar on product pages and the cart, daily and product limits, and the checkout rule all work on every Shopify plan. Only the date picker inside checkout needs Shopify Plus.
Do customers see how many orders a day has left? No. A day is either available or full.
Can I limit orders per day without customers choosing a date? No. Dalbie Dates counts orders against the day they’re delivered, so each order needs a date.
